People who practices kite sports must report this explicitly in order to charge the extra insurance contribution. Raising and lowering the kites takes place in the designated kite zone (see blue signs). Before raising or lowering a kite, the kiter must ensure that there is a free zone of at least the length of the lines in a semicircle downwind from him. When laying down the kite, the lines should not be in the way between the surf base and the water, so that there is no risk of a jeep or jet ski taking them away. Make sure that the kite cannot blow away and roll up your lines when your kite is on the beach. Kite lash is mandatory. Boardleash is not mandatory, but a helmet is mandatory when using it. In general, the priority rules apply to those for windsurfers and kiters.

Beginner suitable:
Yes, but probably the hardest spot for beginners of the whole Belgian coast. Better beginners spots are Icarus in Zeebrugge or Anemos in Knokke-Heist.

Current:
Having the pier on the left side of the zone has significantly improved the current on the side of Surfing Elephant. There are currents, particularly around the pier, creating a sort of rip, but only in proximity to the pier.

North Sea typical but better than most Belgium spots (but still not great).

In winter there’s more chance of decent waves.
